My obsession this fall has been printed trousers. Trousers are timeless, and offer the perfect solution for anyone channeling their inner Audrey circa 1954. Although Audrey Hepburn rocked the simple, but iconic, black trousers, this fall we have seen bold prints all over the runways and all over the streets.
Kate Spade offered several different patterns in her Spring 2014 collection, including black and white checked patterns and subdued shimmery geometric patterns. Prabal Gurung and Phillip Lim also showcased subtle prints and bold colors on trousers in their collections.
The versatility of women’s trousers is what makes them so enchanting. From delicate, hand-painted floral patterns to in-your-face golf caddy plaid, printed trousers can be anything you want them to be. Personally I have been drawn to the masculine styles and feminine options, both of which can be styled in a multitude of ways.
With bold checkered or plaid patterns, I like a classic, neutral v-neck and a statement shoe, such as rhinestone loafers or cheetah print flats. It might seem like a lot, but the funky mixture of patterns is quirky and fun. More delicate patterns look good paired with graphic tees and sneakers, or strappy heels, a white tee and an old jean jacket. Play around with it; there are so many possibilities!
And I’m sure there are so many other options as well! Shop around, and don’t be afraid to mix textures and prints. Happy fall!
